A recent report by Betsson, GambleID, and Sports Handle has revealed some interesting insights into the habits of sports bettors in the US. According to the report, 59% of bettors place bets on a daily basis, while 33% bet weekly. The study, which surveyed operators and known sports bettors, found that the majority of participants are male and fall within the age range of 25-44.
One of the most intriguing findings of the report is that 43% of bettors have downloaded more than five betting apps, showing a preference for variety. Only 5% of participants remain loyal to a single betting product. The most popular type of bet is the point spread, favored by 81% of respondents, followed by moneyline bets at 69% and over/under bets at 63%. Proposition bets were chosen by 54% of participants.
In terms of monthly deposits, 37% of respondents reported spending less than $100, while 10% spent between $1,000 and $4,999. Football emerged as the top sport for betting, with 92% of participants ranking it in their top three, followed by basketball at 66% and golf at 27%. Surprisingly, esports and boxing were the least popular sports among respondents, each selected by only 1%.
Most bettors prefer using mobile apps for their bets, with 52% opting for this method, while 22% prefer online platforms and only 2% use retail sportsbooks. DraftKings was the most recognized app, followed closely by FanDuel and Caesars Sportsbook. When it comes to preferred betting platforms, DraftKings also took the top spot, with bettors expressing a desire for improved app latency and personalized bet suggestions.
The report highlighted that 20%-30% of first-time bettors become repeat customers, with factors such as odds, user experience, and promotions playing a key role in selecting a betting site. There is also a growing demand for more betting options and better odds, especially on mobile devices.
Although the sample size for operators was small, the findings of the report provide valuable insights for the industry. It is clear that bettors in the US have a strong preference for diverse betting options and place importance on user experience when choosing a betting site. This report sheds light on the evolving habits and preferences of sports bettors in the US, pointing towards a continued growth in the industry.
