Caesars Palace in Las Vegas is getting ready for a renovation that will temporarily close its poker room for about two to three months. The decision was shared with employees through a company memo, as reported by Poker News.
The poker room at Caesars Palace will shut down around July 17 and will be closed for 60 to 90 days. However, the room will not undergo any renovations itself; instead, the high-limit slot area at the property will be remodeled.
Since high-limit slots bring in much more revenue for casinos compared to poker rooms, the poker room will be transformed into a temporary high-limit slot room during this period. The last poker hand will be dealt on or around July 17, although final decisions are still pending, as mentioned in the memo.
Interestingly, July 17 coincides with the final table of the World Series of Poker, which is currently taking place at other Caesars Entertainment properties like the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. This strategic move might reduce the inconvenience for poker players on that specific date. Moreover, The Mirage will also cease operations on the same day for a three-year renovation to become the new Hard Rock Las Vegas.
According to the memo, Caesars Entertainment is actively looking for an alternative location to set up a temporary poker room during the renovation. However, no suitable place has been finalized yet, and there is no assurance that one will be secured.
The existing poker room at Caesars Palace was established a decade ago, near the sportsbook and Mesa Grill. The former poker room was replaced by an expansion of the Pure nightclub on the property. This renovation will offer an opportunity for the high-limit slot area to be enhanced, ensuring a more lucrative return for the casino.
